Are You Really Too Blessed to Be Stressed?
We've all heard or possibly have used the phrase "I'm too blessed to be stressed". While it may be a catchy expression that most christians love to declare, I'd like to take a moment to share some hard facts and numbers about stress.
What is stress?
According to dictionary.com, stress is defined as a state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or very demanding circumstances.

In a roundabout way the definition of stress seems to be the way most people in society live on a day to day basis. More than 40% of Americans say they feel more stressed than they did 5 years ago, according to data from the American Institute of stress. The data also show that only 36.8% managers and 29% business owners feel satisfied with their work-life balance. Stress is the basic cause of human illness and disease, and failure to achieve this balance can fuel consistently high stress levels. Therefore, controlling stress triggers is critical to maintaining overall health. Stroke and heart disease are the leading causes of death in women in the United States.
The exact causes of high blood pressure and strokes are not known, but several things may play a role, including:
- Smoking.
- Being overweight or obese.
- Lack of physical activity.
- Too much salt in the diet.
- Too much alcohol consumption (more than 1 to 2 drinks per day)
- Stress.
- Older age.
- Genetics.

The world and society we live in is complex and chaotic enough; having peace of mind and peace in our spirit should be the last thing we must worry about.
So, Are you really too blessed to be stressed? I sure hope so!
